  • 2 The Old Fire-Alarm Station: Not for Grown-Ups

If you’re a 17-year-old party animal, then the Old Fire Station is just the place for you! You can enjoy drunken rooftop raves at all hours of the night. And no worries about hiking downstairs with your empty beer bottles – just chuck them into the neighbour’s garden. Surely they won’t mind. And if you like to stay out clubbing on weeknights and come home at 4:00am, you can let everyone else know about the fun you’ve had by screaming about it all the way up the stairs. Then you can light up a fag and set off the fire alarm so that everyone can join you for the after-party in the car park. If you’re serious about your education, then don’t bother living at the Old Fire Station. You will be awakened at all hours several times a week by fire alarms, drunken yelling in the stairwell, and doors that slam so loudly that when you’re on the phone the person you’re talking with will ask what’s going on in your building. You will wade through rubbish on your way out of the car park. You can enjoy showering in total darkness because it takes maintenance a week to change a light bulb. (Don’t even THINK of using a candle when this happens. You’ll get into big trouble from the management that doesn’t have time to change your light-bulb but has plenty of time to inspect your flat for contraband candles.) And you get to enjoy all this for only a small fortune! Seriously, you could most likely stay at a proper guesthouse with free breakfast for cheaper than the Old Fire Station. Its city-centre location is convenient and the Internet works fairly well. But that’s the most I can say for this place.
